Outreach
CCR members are involved on a formal and informal basis with many organizations in the Greater Lafayette area. In addition, CCR develops a number of educational initiatives, and sponsors social events during the year in order to raise awareness of the importance of civil rights in communities like Greater Lafayette.
Look for Our Fall 2007 Voters Guide
The CCR voters guide is one of our most important publications. The guide presents candidate positions on key issues of interest to our community.
The guide is presented in a simple question/answer format. We are sending out a survey to the candidates in the next few weeks. Their responses will be used to create the guide. If a candidate does not respond to our survey, we will use information from other sources to provide you with our assumption of the candidate's response.
You will be able to use our guide in this November's local election. This year's election is a key election for issues that are of high interest to our community. We hope our Voters Guide is a valuable source for information as you go to the polls.
PRYSM Youth Group
Pride Lafayette, P-FLAG, and Citizens for Civil Rights are co-sponsors of PRSYM (Positive Reflections of Young Sexual Minorities). PRYSM is a group that is for youth and is led by youth, under the sponsorship and guidance of the above three organizations.
The group was formed to serve as a social-support outlet for area youth who are dealing with issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity. Our community can be a threatening place for young GLBTI people. We hope to give youth a safe place to gather that is free from harrassment and other forms of bigotry. The peer support fostered by the group will help youth improve their self-esteem and give them opportunities to form friendships with others who are going through the same experiences.
