I was into marine aquaria with a 55 gallon aquarium until about two years ago. I finally gave my aquarium to one of my sons.
For several months, I had wanted to get back into the aquarium scene. I actually envisioned that I would stay with a marine set-up. However, I saw an ad in our local paper for a used 110 gallon freshwater set-up complete with fish and, after seeing the thing for myself, I liked it so much that I made a deal with the owner and have decided to keep it pretty much unchanged, at least for the time being.
The tank is 48" long, 30" high, and 18" deep (width). The occupants are one 7" Tinfoil Barb, (I call him "Big Guy"), two 3" Silver Dollars, two 3" Bala Sharks, two 3" Marbled Angels, and one 7" Plecostomus. The set-up that I inherited has an undergravel filter which I'm staying with for now. The previous owner had a couple of noisy diaphragm air pumps which I have replaced with powerheads.
