My Hobby
My hobby is older automobiles. Mainly autos from the
1930's through the 1960's. Since I can't stand to leave a car
alone, I naturally am interested in Street Rods and Customs. I
hope to communicate with people with similar interests and maybe
wheel-and-deal on any cars, parts, or memorabilia which we may
have.>
One of the most extensive collections of rod-links
I have seen is posted by Mike Seiwert. Pay him a visit.
My 1935 Ford

Other Cars In My Past

1951 Chevrolet
Deluxe Convertible
This is the first car I ever owned. It was a 1951 Chevy Deluxe
Convertible. It was pale yellow with a white top and a black leather
interior. It came with a PowerGlide transmission which meant that
it had the 235 c.i. engine. This transmission made it a real dog,
but that didn't matter at the time. The car cost me all of $200
but in 1959, I had to bale a lot of hay to get that much money.
Later modifications included a 3-speed transmission with a "Posi-Shift"
floor shift conversion by Ansen, and a Corvette exhaust header
with dual glass-packs. This picture doesn't show it, but I later
added 2" lowering blocks and heated the front springs to
get the "right" look. This was accompanied by the bumpy
ride which was "Oh-so-cool" at the time. This car was
traded for a 1955 Chevy Bel Air Convertible of which, unfortunately,
I do not have a picture.

1955 Oldsmobile 98 Holiday
This is the car I traded my '55 Chevy Convertible for. It was
a 1955 Oldsmobile, 98 Holiday which also had a "Starfire"
emblem on the front fenders. The books I have read say that Olds
didn't make the "Starfire" except in convertible form
in '55 and '56. I don't know what to say about that other than
the fact that if this was truely a "Starfire", I had
an extremely rare car. It is very difficult to say whether this
car or my next one was my favorite car to have ever owned but
it surely has a sweet spot in my heart. I believe that I drove
it from 1961-1964 when I sold it, while stationed at Cherry Point
NC, to a very lucky guy who was going to take it to California.
Sure wish I had it back. It was painted a beautiful metallic blue
which, I believe, was a '57 Olds color called "Sapphire Mist".
It had the 324.3 engine and the 4-speed Hydra-Matic transmission.
It would really run for a car of that era and made the '55 Chevy
seem like a dog. It, too, was lowered all around and had the requisite
dual glass-packs. I hated to sell it, but unfortunately I had
to.

1956 Oldsmobile 98 Holiday "Starfire"

Still at Cherry Point, it came time for me to buy another
car so I started looking around the base town of Havelock, NC
and
low-and-behold I found this car on a used car lot. I don't remember
what I paid for it but it truely was a "Starfire". It
had
power everything and was painted a copper and cream color. I didn't
drive it very long before I found out why it was on the
lot. It was putting water in the oil from a cracked block. I got
another engine from a salvage yard and had it bored .060 over
and overhauled completely. It really would go down the road after
that. I had it when I was discharged in 1966 and drove it
home to Indiana. It was a quick trip to say the least. I didn't
realize the rarity of this car until it was way too late. I traded
it in
on my next car which was something I just had to have.

1962 Impala Convertible
"409" 4-Speed
We all know the song by the Beach Boys. About all I
can say about driving this one is "Gittyup, Gittyup, 409".
It was loaded with torque and sure was fun to drive. It was black
and beautiful with a white top and a red interior. Chromed reversed
wheels and Firestones decked it out along with the tach on the
dash.

1953 Chevrolet Pickup
This was a 1953 Chevrolet, 3/4 Ton pickup. It was pretty much
a sleeper since the entire drivetrain was from a 429 Cadillac.
I didn't keep this one too long as I figured it was going to get
me into trouble. Someone else wanted it more than I did so I sold
it for enough to get the '35 Ford which I still have and am working
on today.
1970 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale

This was just a very nice car. It was clean as a pin
and one of the few cars that I left alone. My son recently told
me that it was VERY fast. It had a 455 c.i. engine. I had
it until it was well over 100,000 miles and I saw it around town
for a couple of years after I sold it.
Mystery Car
Does anyone know who this car belongs or belonged to
at the time this picture was taken? I found the picture in an
antique shop in Lebanon, Indiana and just couldn't resist buying
it. I have wondered about the car since. It is really a neat hot
rod and I am just curious about the car and how the picture ended
up in a shop for sale.
